Morocco Becomes Stellantis' African Hub with Massive Kenitra Plant Upgrade

Stellantis is significantly expanding its production capabilities at the Kenitra plant in Morocco, with plans to produce the new Fiat Giga Panda and Panda Fastback models there starting in 2026.

Production Expansion:
Stellantis has invested €1.2 billion in the Kenitra plant, aiming to more than double its annual production capacity from 200,000 vehicles to 535,000 by 2030. This expansion also includes a target to reach a local integration rate of 75% by 2030.

New Models:
The Fiat Giga Panda and Panda Fastback are key additions to the Kenitra plant's production lineup. These models are part of Fiat's "Smart Car" platform and are expected to be available in both hybrid and electric versions.

Fiat Giga Panda:
Described as a "bold evolution in compact SUV design," the Giga Panda aims to blend Italian style with practicality. It will offer more space, smart features, and will be available with hybrid and electric powertrain options. It's envisioned as a modern crossover suitable for urban driving and adventures.

Fiat Panda Fastback:
This model is an SUV coupe, expected to be around 4.35 meters long. It will share design cues with the Grande Panda (which initiated a new family of vehicles for Fiat) and will feature a sloping rear window. Powertrain options are anticipated to include a mild hybrid with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine (100 HP) and a fully electric variant with a 113 HP motor and a 44 kWh battery, offering a range of approximately 320 km (WLTP).

Other Production:
The Kenitra plant already produces models like the Peugeot 208, Citroën Ami, Opel Rocks Electric, and Fiat Topolino. The expansion will also boost production of these electric microcars from 20,000 to 70,000 annually and introduce a new range of electric three-wheelers (like the Fiat Tris). Additionally, the plant will produce mild hybrid engines and electric charging stations.

Strategic Hub:
Morocco is becoming a strategic production hub for Stellantis, serving both African and European markets. The investment and expansion are expected to create over 3,000 new jobs in addition to the existing 3,500.
